About TTS Reader
TTS Reader is a free iPhone app that reads your documents, ebooks, scans and web articles aloud with voices that run on the device. It is made by Farida Sarsengaliyeva and has no server, no account and no ads.
Why it exists
Most text-to-speech readers stream audio from a cloud service, ask you to create an account, or sell listening time by the minute. Modern open voice models are small enough to run on an iPhone, so TTS Reader does the whole job on the device: it turns text into speech locally, works offline, and never needs to see what you are reading.
How it works
- Voices. Supertonic 3 (10 multilingual voices, 31 languages) ships inside the app. Kokoro (15 English voices) is an optional download. Both run with Core ML on the iPhone.
- Text. TTS Reader extracts text from PDF, EPUB, Word and other files with its own import pipeline, keeps PDF pages in their layout, and recognises printed text in photos and scans with Apple’s on-device text recognition.
- Highlighting. The app aligns the generated speech with the text, so the current sentence and word are highlighted while you listen.
- Books. About 70,000 public-domain books come from Project Gutenberg.
What TTS Reader is not
“TTS reader” is a common description, and several products use similar names. To avoid confusion:
- TTS Reader (this app) is not affiliated with the ttsreader.com web service or its makers.
- It is not related to other App Store apps with “TTS Reader” in their names.
- It is not a cloud service, a voice-cloning tool or an audiobook store, and it does not open Kindle or other DRM-protected books.
The app you are reading about is the one linked from this website, published on the App Store for iPhone.
