Terms of use and licenses
TTS Reader is free to use for reading your own documents and public-domain books aloud. Apple’s standard licence terms for App Store apps apply, together with the voice model rules below.
Terms of use
- Licence. TTS Reader is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. TTS Reader is made by Farida Sarsengaliyeva.
- Your content. You are responsible for the documents, links and text you open in the app and for having the right to use them. The app reads them on your iPhone and does not upload them.
- Synthetic voices. The voices are computer-generated. Do not use them, or audio made with them, to impersonate a real person, to deceive or harm others, or in any way listed in the voice model rules below.
- No warranty. The app is provided as is. Speech, text recognition and highlighting are automatic and may contain mistakes; do not rely on them where an error could cause harm.
- Price. The current version is free and has no in-app purchases. If paid features are added in a future version, their price and terms will be shown in the app before you buy anything.

Voice model licenses
TTS Reader runs two open text-to-speech models on your iPhone.
Supertonic 3 (built-in multilingual voices)
Supertonic 3 by Supertone Inc. is licensed under the BigScience Open RAIL-M License. That license allows free use but forbids some uses, and requires every user to follow them. By using the multilingual voices in TTS Reader you agree not to use them, or their output:

- to exploit, harm or attempt to exploit or harm minors in any way;
- to generate or spread verifiably false information intended to harm others;
- to generate or spread personal information that can be used to harm an individual;
- to publish generated content without clearly stating that it is machine-generated;
- to defame, disparage or harass others;
- to impersonate or attempt to impersonate others without their consent (for example, deepfakes);
- for fully automated decision-making that adversely affects a person’s legal rights or creates a binding obligation;
- to discriminate against or harm people based on their social behaviour or personal or personality characteristics;
- to exploit vulnerabilities of a group of people based on age, social, physical or mental characteristics in a way that is likely to cause physical or psychological harm;
- to discriminate against people based on legally protected characteristics;
- to provide medical advice or interpret medical results;
- for the administration of justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes, such as predicting that a person will commit a crime.
The full text of the license, including its disclaimer of warranty, is available here.
Kokoro (optional English voices)
Kokoro-82M by hexgrad, in the Core ML conversion by FluidInference, is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. The voice files are downloaded from huggingface.co only if you choose to install the English voice pack.
Project Gutenberg books
The free book catalog uses Project Gutenberg and the Gutendex index. The books are in the public domain in the United States. Copyright laws differ between countries, so check the status of a book where you live before using it beyond personal reading. TTS Reader removes the Project Gutenberg header and license text from downloaded books so that listening starts at the first chapter; TTS Reader is not affiliated with Project Gutenberg.
